What's possible with God? If we truly serve an almighty God and He works intimately with His people today, we should be able to tackle the world's biggest problems, like chronic poverty. The Bible says, "With God, nothing is impossible" (Luke 1:37), "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil 3:10), and "The people living in darkness have seen a great light" (Isa 9:2). The excitement isn't in having these promises in our back pocket, but in living them out; we only have one lifetime to take these promises and go as far as we can with them. This is the mindset on which Equip Mozambique is founded. To those who know God, we seek to be an example and inspiration of what's possible when walking in obedience to Him. To those who don't know God yet, watch us. We hope our lives are a shining testimony to God's existence and ability to transform even the most desperate situations.
What does that look like on a day-to-day basis? We talk with Mozambican organizations and individuals about their hopes and dreams, frustrations, and just about life in general while seeing what role we may be able to play in what God is leading them to do. Sometimes, these relationships turn into partnerships; other times we are just happy to get the chance to disciple.
Equip Mozambique was founded in 2014 in Rolla Missouri. To learn more about the circumstances surrounding the founding and sending, click here. We left as a team of three adults and two kids in August of that same year, and have been on the field ever since. While our vision has never changed, our ideas about our specific activities certainly have! We had planned to start a college in Mozambique, but when we arrived and started doing our initial research, we realized that the biggest problem facing the culture wasn't lack of education, but the lack of jobs and the quality of education. Seeing larger needs than our original vision, the Equip Mozambique team has been investigating ways to create jobs on the micro and macro level and improve the educational mindset of the culture.
Equip Mozambique is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is governed by a joint American-Mozambican board of directors. We are fortunate enough to have donors, volunteers, and organizational partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic but we are always interested in creating an even stronger network of those who are interested in helping out Mozambique.
